Today I would like to recommend three spiritual books by St. Josemaria Escriva. These are: The Way, Furrow, and The Forge. I have a single volume edition and recommend that you too get a copy of these books–its an excellent source for some spiritual and meditation guidance. In each of these three books, St. Josemaria Escriva offers brief passages or bits of conversation, personal experiences, or letters from St. Josemaria. In The Way there are 999 brief advice guidance for meditation. Furrow consists of 1,000 points, while The Forge offers friendly, fatherly advice.

Book Review: All Things Girl

As a high schooler, I can say that this book is full of great wisdom that I wish I would have had during my 5th/6th grade years… the awkward stages for every kid.
All Things Girl: Friends, Boys, and Getting Along addresses a wide variety of topics ranging from true beauty, finding good friends, how to deal with mean girls and gossip, and the world of dating and guys. I think it’s a perfect resource for any girl between 9-11, who is trying hard to find who her friends are, discover her inner beauty, and realize what role Jesus should really be playing in her life.
The book’s central theme is that all girls are “princesses” of Christ. While I thought this was an excellent message and great information, I think at some points in the book they ways that it was presented seemed a little too young for the age group that the book was reaching.
It reminded me a lot of some of the American Girl books and magazine- which I loved growing up. The book is filled with great reflections, quizzes, prayers, and stories that pre-teen girls can relate to and learn from. It enforces the belief of loving, not judging other people, and reminds girls to uphold their dignity and love who God made them to be.
If you have a daughter, niece or granddaughter who is a pre-teen, this would be a perfect Christmas or birthday gift for them!
It’s always great to have someone remind you that you’re beautiful, made for more than this world, and have a lot of potential. Sadly, though, many girls don’t here this often enough. This resource is 100% Orthodox, awesome at explaining, and perfect for pre-teen girls.

Do I Have to Go?
When I first saw this book in my religious ed class, I didn’t have very high expectations. I was so surprised! After flipping through it, I purchased it a few weeks later at my local Catholic bookstore, and I couldn’t put it down! I read the whole book in a quick plane flight, and after stepping off that plane, I was ready to mapquest the nearest church… it was time for Mass! Matthew Pinto and Chris Stefanick do a brilliant job explaining everything from our not-so-monotonous traditions, the true Presence, and prayer, to liturgical seasons and what worship truly is. Do I Have to Go? has a permanent place on my bookshelf, and I reference it frequently. Concise, easy to read, and geared towards teens, this is a perfect resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the mass.
As a teen, I myself have wondered about many of the questions that are covered in this book. I found the answers to be clear and helpful. The book is 100% orthodox and is totally going to change the way that you view Mass and the awesome gift of the Eucharist. It is full of REAL questions from REAL teens who really want to learn about their faith. It takes you from the perspective of “Do I Have to Go?” to “When’s Sunday?? I can’t wait!”The book is really interesting, great for reading in short sittings, and It explains everything in with clarity and in a way that teens can relate to. So what are you waiting for? Get ready to read an awesome question and answer book and learn a ton about your faith. I can promise you this- Mass will never be the same.
